It’s been an interesting year to say the least!
For many in the UK, the uncertaintity about Brexit, political parties bickering within and what can only be interpreted as a government who is not following through with a democratic vote made to leave the European Union and acting on behalf of the people!
Allegations and convictions of male leaders of influence who have wrongly manipulated and taken advantage of their positions to impose harm on others for their own satisfaction, which has led to an uprising to bring change which is great, but sad it even happened in the first place.
Activist continue to push forward for economic and climate change with a huge shift against plastic usage and waste, yet commercial enterties figuring out how best to get the consumer buy-in as they promote key messages to gain emotional connection to win business and maintain/strengthen relationships with consumers.
More and more people lost in the smartphone techonology world, with an ever increasing ill population through poor nutrition and lifestyle choices, putting massive strain on the public health services.
Is this a sign of the times representing further challenges ahead?
Only a few weeks ago I presented at a UK mindset convention about life planning. It was certainly an interesting experience. Many leaders of their field of expertise all promoting how they achieve the results and sharing insights to their aplication of knowledge and technique. Yet between them, they also seem to bicker amongst what is right and what is wrong, how one technique is more superior than the other, how science is now suggesting certain procedures of techniques are not required and much more. I also got the feeling it was also about who had the biggest ego to prove how marvellous they are at the expense of belittling others.
As I presented my 2 hour session, I talked about whether the audience were a slave to their business, or the business was a slave to themselves? I encouraged all at the session to be involved to which we had some good interaction. However, one thing did stand out, the majority of the audience when asked a simple question about their life and business strategy/plans raised their hands to confirm they were on track. This got my curiosity and I pursued to question further.
I continued with a story about the 3 little pigs who were called – Simon Straw, Willie Wood and Bobby Brick, and not forgetting the big bad wolf! All three piggies representing the 3 different approaches to life, yet with the same potential. It certainly raised a number of eyebrows, yet with a sense of curiosity and humur as to how this related to life and business.
Quite simply, Simon Straw is the pig who lived for today, everyone admired thinking he had everything in oder. You know, the flash car, holidays, always promoting how well he is doing on the face of it. Simon Straw as we know got a visit from teh big bad wolf, and sure enough his house was blown down leaving Simon Straw to run to Willie Wood’s house of sticks. Willie Wood on the other hand knew what he ought to be doing, and would always say he’ll get round to it, doint a little to get by, but too busy thinking law of attraction will save him. Sure enough, Mr Big Bad Wolf came by and blew his house of sticks down as well.
As Simon Straw and Willie Wood legged it to Bobby Bricks house, Mr Big Bad Wolf followed. Now, as we know, Bobby Brick took his time ensuring the foundations of his home were firmly secure, always making sure he put each brick firmly in place. A bit like ensuring your mindset and finances are all correctly structured for 2020 and beyond. As Simon Straw and Willie Wood were always out partying igonring the risks of bad poor planning, Bobby Brick would be steadily ensuring his foundation was secure. As Simon Straw and Willie Wood arrived, Bobby Brick welcomed them in and lock the door securely. As Mr Wolf arrived, Bobby sighed with relief knowing that he had sought sound advice and guidance, and sure enough no matter how hard Mr Big Bad Wolf tried, he could not blow the house down!
I’ll let you reflect on this story and see if you relate to either Simone Straw, Willie Wood or Bobby Brick.
Back to the session I delivered. One lady responded that she had everything in place, was earning all that she needed and that she had a financial adviser. I naturally responded “Great”, so can you tell me what your average hourly earnings are based on the hours you work each week and the amount of weeks per year you work? She stuttered and mumbled before responding “Well I have a financial adviser”. Great I said, but do you know whether you are on track or not, and do you know the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) about your average hourly earnings. After a short mumbling she admitted she had no idea, nor did her financial adviser.
Great I said, now we have a starting point, and I presumed with what I feel are effective formulas to work out the required formula. The lady had a slightly embarrassed look upon herself as she realised she was in a reactive state with her business, with many more raising their hands saying they were not in control of their strategy and plan. My aim wasn’t to embarrass anyone, nor bring shame, but merely to highllight the importance of understanding their strategies to success.
This is a common theme when listening to people. Their ego states that they are on track and are in full control, yet when we break it down, approximately 95% of the people don’t really have any structure for success. Success isn’t just about financial or career promotion, it’s about your mindset and life choices.
I question how much internal stress this causes, and does it influence life and business choices? I believe it does, and often to the detriment of many peoples lives when they realise it’s all a little too late for some!
The year 2019 for me also represents the year of mental health awareness. But has it gone too far I ask?
What do you mean you may ask! Quite simply, yes, the awareness of mental health has brought a huge shift towards supporting individuals with their internal and external outlook on life and how they deal with lifes challenges. However, I also think there is a fine balance between an individual who has true stress/anxiety/depression, verse someone who just needs clarity. For some, the sense of belonging to a community, being part of a group, or even wanting some attention or an excuse to not work brings the sense of stress/anxiety, when in actual fact there isn’t anything really wrong with them. I suggest this with absolute sincerity and compassion
The continued advertisement and promotion of mental health issues also for some can program their minds with subliminal messages of mental health, when in fact they may not even have any mental health challenges.
When an individual truly understands how they are programmed, what their aims, objectives and desires in life are, with a structured and measureable plan, then to be fair people don’t get negative stress or anxiety. They actually find they have resilience, tenacity and endurance, and become in tune with their emotional drivers and outlook in life.
This is why I launched my new course for 2020. My true aim is to empower all participants with clear decisive action plans for both mind and wealth, with a new found ability to approach life without stress or anxiety.
